I had a high profile and active trial practice in criminal defense for 18 or so years prior to my disbarment and conviction. I conducted over 200 trials to verdict before the petit jury. Over that period of time, I learned more about sociology than law. I was in the studios of WJZM one day when the manager of the accounts receivable department proudly informed me, as an illustration, that she tends to give police officers "the benefit of the doubt." This certainly wasn't news to me but fairly illustrates why our justice system is broken. You see, she is the rule and not the exception and she has been pre-conditioned through government propaganda to believe all factual disputes between the government and its citizenry should be resolved in the government's favor. This was not our founder's intent. Our founders were critically thinking people whom understood all too well that the citizen, in a free nation, must have certain protections against his/her government. That is why a citizen is to be presumed innocent, why the government bears the entire burden of proof, why a citizen cannot be compelled to give evidence against him/herself, why juries are charged that, if they can articulate any reason as to why doubt exists that the citizen has committed the offense, they are required to return an acquittal, and why our entire system of jurisprudence is predicated upon the premise it is preferable to allow 100 guilty citizens to escape justice than to wrongly convict one innocent person. Juries think to themselves that if they are unsure about whether a citizen has committed an offense it should resolve the dispute in favor of the government, after all, "...he had to have done something or he would not have been charged." That is directly contrary to what our founders intended for the system of government and justice desired for the nation they were forming. The proper analysis is, "...I am uncertain and can't rest easy depriving this citizen of his liberty based on the evidenced I have been shown by the only party required to show me anything, therefore I am required to acquit this person." So, that is the purpose of The Long Version, to seize this Country back from the Jack-booted demagogues whom have seized it and convinced us we are only "good, little citizens" when we agree with authority and "un-American" when we challenge it. The Long Version is the modern day Thomas Payne, critically dissecting and analyzing the actions of a domestic, as opposed to a distant, Sovereign. The Long Version has challenged and exposed the oppressive and corrupt family court system across this nation whom are criminalizing citizens and incarcerating them for having the audacity to enter into a bad marital match. We have exposed the trail of money under Title IV funding to state court systems which take our children from our homes and pay the states to keep these families separated and the children in foster care or have them adopted where their exposure to being endangered is often increased as opposed to alleviated. Interspaced between this serious and alarming commentary, we interview famous musicians, actors, and athletes. Basically any story can and does have a Long Version!
