New from Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow is a re-boot of Rainbow’s hit single “I Surrender” featuring current band vocalist Ronnie Romero. It’s one of two songs they have just released; the other is the instrumental "Land Of Hope And Glory" which is his reworking of a British patriotic song which Americans associate as the music played before high school and college graduation ceremonies. It was recorded earlier this year the same time the guitarist was recording music for this other band, Blackmore’s Night. He said in an interview with Japan’s Burrn Magazine that Rainbow will likely release individual tracks as singles instead of a full album.
The last song of the playlist was something special. Last week I spoke about the two versions of the band Great White, and how the band not fronted by original frontman Jack Russell has French vocalist Terry Ilous, who also sang with XYZ in the 80s. Someone must have been listening because I received Terry’s new solo album "Gypsy Dreams" in the mail over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised of its sound. All of the songs are covers of rock and metal classics but done with a Latin and flamenco edge.
