Presenting sponsor, Vidaris, helps real estate owners and architects realize their goals and objectives in the areas of building envelope, energy efficiency, code, construction and engineering. Marc Weissbach, CEO at Vidaris and his wife, Shari, are long-time LLS supporters. Shari has generously volunteered her time to orchestrate & run the Night on the Town auction and raffle for two years.
Additionally, Roslyn Savings Bank, a division of New York Community Bank, and Lalezarian Properties LLC are top sponsors of the event.
Volunteers Tony Lubrano & Harry Zapiti started a Night on the Town in 2011 in honor of Tony’s father, Pasquale, an avid cook and who established La Bussola Ristorante in Glen Cove in 1980. Pasquale passed along his love of food and cooking to his children, who now run La Bussola in Glen Cove and Piccola Bussola in Mineola and Huntington. Pasquale was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in 1991 and given just months to live. Pasquale signed up for every clinical trial he could, and lived another 15 years thanks to advances in research.
“My lifelong goal is to collectively raise $1 million to honor my father and support the important research that LLS funds.” In 2015, Tony and his sister, Fran, founded Warriors for a Cause, a volunteer group, which supports a number of local charitable causes. To date, Tony and his supporters have raised more than $600k to support the LLS mission.
“LLS is volunteer driven organization and it’s only because of people like Tony, Harry, and Warriors for a Cause that LLS has seen enormous advances its research. However, we still have a long way to go. Survival rates for AML have remained stagnate for years - at only 25%. It’s critical we continue to invest in research.”
Today, with LLS’s support of critical research, the survival rate for pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common form of childhood cancer, has risen to 92%. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children, adolescents, and young adults under the age of 20. Since its inception, LLS has invested more than $1 billion in research internationally to fund a cure, with $49 million invested in 2016 alone.
