This past weekend I embarked on a quick adventure to Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. I call it an adventure because I see life as an adventure and make the best out of every situation. I started my weekend wanderlust in Brooklyn to see a special friend and then we decided to go Greek by heading to the Upper East Side for some authentic and delicious Greek food at a fabulous restaurant. As we ate dinner we reminisced about our time recently spent together in Greece and suddenly I was dreaming of the Mediterranean Sea. It is amazing how an experience, a song, a sound, or even a smell can whisk you back to a place as if you were there. I took a sip of my Greek wine and my mind wandered off to the island of Santorini and the next thing I knew there was a fire! Oh yes, actual flames and something being burned. My friend was trying to take a picture of our table with the chef and in that moment my friend set her hair on fire by leaning against the candle that was on the table. We were all yelling at her to get up in between gasps of air from laughing so hard. I could not believe what had just happened! I was hysterical laughing and my laugh is hard to stop once it begins. It took me a while to look at her again without laughing or smelling something burnt. What an adventure! Too bad she did not press the button on her camera to capture our table or her hair on fire. I would have really liked to see that table selfie! This is just one adventure I will have to relive by sharing the story rather than posting a selfie.
Following the fire on York Avenue we headed into Queens to see a friend’s band play. Now here is where more of my adventurous side comes into play. The friend’s band is a rock band and not typically the genre of music I listen to, but I am open-minded and can appreciate a variety of things. That being said, I walked into the place and felt a bit out of place. I always wear black and this one night I decided to wear red and of course everyone in the place was wearing black. It was definitely not my scene, but I am always up for a new experience. I decided to live like a local and immerse myself in the culture. I listened to a series of bands play and most of the time I could only appreciate the drums and the screams. There is a lot of screaming in rock performances and a lot of loud sounds. I found all of the bands to be talented and I enjoyed watching the moves of the musicians and especially the vocalists. I had a really good time, but after four bands I was ready to leave and head back to my weekend home in Brooklyn. On my way back to the apartment I could not believe all of the places I went and the experiences I had in one night and in one city. New York City is dynamic. I love NY!
