(feel free to share this)
Saturday June 10th: I was graced with having the opportunity to interview William Byrne. Bill is the president of Rolling Thunder Inc. Chapter 6!
Rolling Thunder Chapter 6 was incorporated in 1995 and is a class 501(c)(4) non-profit organization with over 90 chapter throughout the United States as well as having members abroad.
Many members are veterans and many ride motorcycles but Rolling Thunder is not a motor cycle club. It’s a club made up of veterans, non-veterans, men, woman, young and old UNITED in the cause to bring full accountability for P.O.W. (Prisoners of War) and M.I.A. (Missing in Action) of all wars!! We need to remind the government, the media and public that WE WILL NOT FORGET!
Back in 1987 a group of Vietnam veterans met up to discuss personal concerns about POW/MIA veterans. These men and woman served their country and took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the Unite States against all enemies, to bear true faith and allegiance to same. These men were deeply troubled with the neglect of attention given to those who didn’t make it out. These vets discussed over 10k sightings of live Veteran’s living disgracefully after having served their country as well as being ignored by the government!!
THE FRIST OF MANY
The founders understood they have a right to be heard and proceeded to lay the path for future demonstrations!
Prior to Memorial Day, in 1988 they reached out to POW and MIA family and friends, fellow veteran advocates. They formed together to march and demonstrate at “the nation’s, capitol.”
The word spread quickly and that day in 1988 approximately 2,500 motorcycles from all over the country converged on Washington DC to demand full accounting of all POW/MIA.
THEIR ARRIVAL WOULD BE ANNOUNCED BY THE ROAR OF MOTORCYCLES A SOUND UNLIKE THE BOMBING CAMPAIGN AGAINST N. VIETNAM DUBBED OPERATION ROLLING THUNDER!!
They made their stand that day, reflected thankfully to all who came to support the cause! This was the first of many more demonstrations, the foundation was laid to the Annual Ride for Freedom or as known as The Ride to The Wall. The number of participators this day is 900,000!!
Being tax exempt, non-profit enables individuals and corporation to receive a tax deduction for funds donated to Rolling Thunder Charities. These funds are used for veterans, active military and their families in need of help.
~ They spend hundreds of thousands yearly in financial aid, food, clothing and other services to veterans, homeless veterans, their families, women’s crisis centers and toys for children.
~ They donate flags yearly and organize schools, youth groups and organize flag raising ceremonies. Veterans speak to youth groups about the honor of serving the country and educating them.
~ They sponsor search missions in S.E Asia for POW/Mia and the remains of those killed in action.
~ Thousands of hours are donated to visit and provide support to nursing homes, hospitals and patients suffering from PTSD
This organization has done so much to help our vets. WE the people who are true Americans need to get on board and help those who have fought for our freedom.
